The Need for a New Nutrition Paradigm

There are three trends that impact your ability to practice nutrition as it should be practiced according to the teaching of most nutrition experts. These insidious trends are designed to place nutrition in the hands of a few at the expense of society:

Trend One: Codex Alimentarius is a treaty designed by the Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC) and enforced by the United Nations through the World Health Organization under the supervision of the CAC. The only problem with this model is the CAC is under the control and supervision of the large pharmaceutical companies. The agenda of these companies is profits regardless of the ill effects caused by their toxic drugs.

For more information on this topic we refer you to the Codex Alimentarius article on our website and to the Health Freedom USA nonprofit organization which we also support.

Trend Two: The US Food and Drug Administration and similar organizations in most of the civilized world, are clamping down on nutritional products manufacturers and distributors. This movement is fueled by the Codex Alimentarius Commission and the large chemical corporations. Nutritional products manufacturers are being forced to do various things including

  1. Inoculating their products with live viruses to kill any bacteria that might be in their products. The problem is the viruses are often more toxic than any bacteria that would be destroyed by cooking.

  2. Irradiating their products to kill bacteria, fungi, viruses, insects and other uninvited guests. This great idea is flawed only by the fact that irradiation kills enzymes and the life force of plant products. Prolonged irradiation creates radioactive residue that's harmful to all living things.

  3. Forcing companies to add certain "flavorings and taste enhancers" in order to cover the bad taste created by the above two interventions. The problem is these "flavorings and taste enhancers" are toxic chemicals causing a great variety of symptoms and disorders.

  4. Forcing companies to incorporate genetically modified food crops into their products by allowing the food product marketing companies to conceal the truth thereby making it impossible to identify the presence of GMO foods. The problem with this is many people are deathly allergic to some of the genes used in the process to modify foods. People have died eating soy products manufactured with seed containing shellfish genes. People gain weight and can't figure out why but we trace it back to genes from corn intended to fatten cattle more quickly. It turns out people get obese from eating the same things.

  5. Forcing companies to withdraw all advertising and labeling of any kind promoting the health benefits of their products. The problem is that chemical and biology companies are free to advertise the theoretical health benefits of their toxic chemicals. They are also free to mislabel their toxic chemicals as "flavorings and enhancers" approved by the FDA or similar organizations in other countries.

Trend Three: Dietician licensing boards with the support of the pharmaceutical industry, government agencies overseeing pharmaceuticals and the medical associations are expanding their control of nutrition. Licensed dieticians are becoming licensed nutritionists at an alarming rate in North America. This trend is just getting started in Europe and AustralAsia. If there was ever an oxymoron it would have to be dietician nutritionists.

Dieticians are required to know how to create meals for diabetics, cancer and heart patients and hospital patients. They are not required to know anything about vitamins and minerals and what vitamins and minerals are used for in our bodies. But they are required to know the recommended daily allowance (RDA) so they don't exceed those values. The fact RDAs were established to set the minimum daily intake of these nutrients is immaterial. Understanding the nutritional needs of their clients is immaterial. It's also deadly.

There is Hope: The insurance industry is one of the best industries in the world for assessing the risk of any given profession. The higher the risk, the higher the premiums. What we're looking for is the lower risk professions. In the field of nutrition, this is how the insurance industry evaluates the risk:

Highest risk: (These professionals make more mistakes that hurt more clients)

  1. traditional naturopaths who talk and act like a medical doctor
  2. licensed dieticians and/or nutritionists
  3. licensed medical naturopaths
  4. certified and non-certified nutrition counselors
  5. nutrition salespeople

High risk: (These professionals don't harm as many clients as often)

  1. non-licensed, non-certified naturopaths or homeopaths
  2. certified nutrition salespeople
  3. licensed medical homeopath
  4. certified and non-certified nutrition consultants

Medium risk: (These professionals occasionally harm their clients)

  1. licensed traditional naturopaths or homeopaths
  2. certified traditional naturopaths of homeopaths
  3. certified nutrition specialists
  4. certified nutrition coaches who conduct sales but do not practice nutrition

Low risk: (These professionals almost never harm their clients)

  1. board certified naturopath coaches
  2. board certified nutrition coaches
  3. board certified homeopath coaches

Insurance company risk analysis of the nutrition field is verified by statistics provided by Natural Therapies Arbitration and Mediation Services. Most of their clients in the high and highest insurance risk categories are fortunate to admit their guilt and agree to leave their profession for life under penalty of prosecution based on their signed confession. According to the company this is usually the best result for professionals who practice medicine, psychology or counseling without a license.

The company says the rest of the story is that properly trained and certified coaches are rarely investigated or invited to an informal license board hearing. Once investigators read their informed consent forms and codes of professional ethics these cases are usually closed without a hearing or further investigation.

The message is clear that the more you advise, recommend or suggest your client do anything, the higher the risk. The more you try to sell your client anything, the higher the risk. The more you coach and educate your clients and let them make their own decisions, the lower the risk.

The New Nutrition Paradigm: You probably guess that becoming a nutrition coach will lower your risk and becoming a board certified nutrition coach will lower your risk even more. You're on the right track, but there's more.

If you currently sell nutritional products as part of your nutrition business, you need to decide if you're going to be a nutrition coach or a nutrition sales person. Coaches who sell nutritional products through their business raise their risk of trouble with licensing boards from very low to very high. On the other hand, sales people trained as nutritional coaches who opt for sales instead of a nutritional practice have far less problems than salespeople lacking this training.

The old nutrition paradigm was based on the theory that everybody needs the same regimen to become more fit, lose weight and body fat, and increase their energy. There was very little room for individual differences. The new nutrition paradigm is based on the fact that individual differences are the single most important factor in any nutrition program. What helps one person may have no effect on another person.

Nutritionists who use the old paradigm to counsel and advise their clients experience a higher risk of being cited for practicing medicine than nutritionists who use the new paradigm to coach their clients. That's the bottom line. You reduce your risk of medical board problems by the simple act of coaching your clients into making their own decisions instead of telling them what to do.

The new paradigm training program for nutritionists includes the following skills and techniques:

  1. Finding your own profitable market niche
  2. Using a rigorously solid informed consent form
  3. Creating an honest and enforceable Code of Professional Ethics
  4. Making referrals to other professionals you know and trust
  5. Being truthful in your advertising
  6. Becoming trained and certified as a Certified Nutrition Coach (CNC)
  7. Coaching all of your clients all the time
